Finca La Isabelia, the source of this Nicaraguan Organic Jinotega coffee, is situated within the expansive Jinotega growing region. While coffee cultivation is permitted in this area, a significant portion of Jinotega is dedicated to protected tropical rainforests and natural reserves. Jinotega stands out as one of Nicaragua’s three primary coffee-growing regions, alongside Matagalpa and Segovia. It contributes the majority of the country’s coffee production—approximately 65%—benefiting from its tall mountains and forests of oak and pine, which create ideal micro-climate conditions for Arabica coffee.

Nicaragua’s coffee is predominantly shade-grown, utilizing traditional, sustainable farming practices that capitalize on the native trees covering much of the region. This approach helps protect the environment, preserving biodiversity and preventing soil erosion, deforestation, and water contamination.

The western half of Nicaragua features a chain of both active and extinct volcanoes along the Ring of Fire. The volcanic ash from these volcanoes is a valuable soil component for coffee cultivation. Fortunately, the region has not experienced any major, life-threatening eruptions for quite some time.
